Color Guard

Thank you for your interest in marching with the Sacramento Mandarins Color Guard.

How to audition: To audition for the color guard you must attend the audition on December 2 and be available for call backs on January 20 unless other arrangements are made with the guard staff due to school or winter guard conflicts. Those who will be auditioning are strongly encouraged to email the caption head prior to the audition at tiffbraniff@yahoo.com. Please include in your email your name, age, email address, school, and years of experience in color guard or dance. The auditions cost $25. Please refer to the corps' main audition page if you have more questions about this, or contact the caption head directly.

What to bring: If you are interested in spinning weapons, please bring your own rifle and sabre. Flags will be provided. Wear close fitting dance clothes, black is preferred. Hair should be securely pulled back. Appropriate footwear would be dance shoes, socks, or barefeet.

What to expect: Please remember that although experience is recommended, the willingness to learn is also important. The staff will look closely at work ethic, attitude, and your ability to apply corrections.

The audition will begin with a dance block where the staff will look at your flexibility, alignment, coordination and ability to quickly learn dance phrases. If you would like some practice in these areas prior to the audition please refer to the our news page about dance classes in Sacramento. The audition will progress to a flag block to review basics such as drop spins, carvings, and tosses. The camp will end with a weapon block and the staff will evaluate technique and consistency in tosses.

Remember that you are auditioning for a performing group so presentation and ability to perform is crucial. Have confidence in yourself! Prepare now for these auditions.

If you are offered a spot: Please refer to the Mandarins website to find out about fees and rehearsals. Because of winterguard, the colorguard will not begin rehearsing until April 25th. Please check the calendar on the website to see all rehearsal dates.

If you live out of the area please contact the caption head to arrange to send a DVD.
