Program Manager of Sustainable Communities Partnerships, SMUD

Betty is currently working at SMUD in the Sustainable Communities Department supporting nonprofit organizations in the Sacramento Region to develop clean energy and STEM education, inclusive economic development, zero carbon workforce development and environmental justice and equity programs. With an intentional focus on building diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging with community and supporting historically marginalized and under resourced communities, the opportunity to work collaboratively with nonprofit partners is impactful.


She has 36 years of experiences in nonprofit social services, K-12 and community college program development, implementation, and evaluation, state and federal grant writing, community development and recently, 5 seasons in professional sports and entertainment with the Sacramento Kings as Director of Community Impact.

Betty has 10 years of nonprofit board experience and is currently an active Board member for two local nonprofits, My Sister’s House and Food Literacy Center and one national nonprofit, Learn Fresh.


Betty holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology and a Masters in Social Work degree from San Francisco State University. She is a native Sacramentan, lives in Elk Grove with her husband and is a proud parent of two adult children with positive music education experiences.
