Mandarins to Host 2022 DCI Capital Classic

Sacramento's Premier World Class Drum Corps Event

The Sacramento Mandarins is proud to announce the DCI Capital Classic will be taking on new heights in 2022. The Moonlight Classic, previously hosted by S.O.M.E. (Sponsors of Musical Enrichment), will not be returning for the 2022 competitive DCI season, but in its place, the Mandarins will be hosting the 2022 DCI Capital Classic on Friday, July 8th, as Sacramento’s premier world class drum corps event.

In 2019, S.O.M.E. announced the 2019 Moonlight Classic would be their last, and while the Mandarins worked to premiere the new vision of the DCI Capital Classic in 2020, the event was unable to take place due to the cancellation of the 2020 season as well as the shortened 2021 season. Because of these circumstances, the organization has been hard at work, planning to ensure the return to the competitive drum corps season will be innovative and awe-inspiring for all who attend.

The Mandarins have hosted the DCI Capital Classic since its inception in 2012. For the first time, the event lineup will include four World Class corps: the Blue Devils, Mandarins, Pacific Crest, and Santa Clara Vanguard, along with five of California’s Open Class corps. This year, expect a larger venue able to hold thousands of spectators and perfect for exhilarating shows, VIP seating, delicious food from locally-sourced food trucks, and a special encore performance by the Mandarins.

Mandarins President and CEO, Dr. Dan Fong, had this to say about this year’s event: “World class drum corps is back in Sac! We’re excited to host the Capital Classic for you to experience the sights and sounds of live drum corps. Special thanks to S.O.M.E. for hosting the Moonlight Classic for several decades. We are honored to continue the Sacramento tradition. See you on July 8!”
