Thanks to a generous donation from Jimmie & Mary Yee and Family, the Mandarins Event Center’s Trophy Lobby and Band Room were dedicated in their honor on February 10, 2024.
Jimmie became involved with the Mandarins drum corps (formerly Ye Wah) during its formation in 1963, when his oldest daughter joined the corps in the banner/baton and snare drum sections. An interested parent, Jimmie volunteered as a color guard instructor. Over the years, four of his other children joined the corps, marching in the brass and color guard sections. Jimmie and his family have been avid supporters of the Mandarins for decades.
Jimmie said that his interest in volunteerism and public service began with the Mandarins. He was a member of the Sacramento Civil Service Board, the Sacramento City Planning Commission, the Sacramento City Council, and the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors. He also served as mayor of the City of Sacramento. His knowledge and expertise with governmental affairs helped many community organizations. Most recently, Jimmie worked with the County of Sacramento and the City of Rancho Cordova to make the Mandarins Event Center a reality.
